SIGNIS INDONESIA: Media Education: Do Media Respect Life?


Celebrating its 40th years anniversary, on September 27, 2010 Puskat Audio Visual Studio-Yogyakarta-Indonesia successfully organized a seminar on “Media Education: Do Media Respect Life?” The seminar was done in the green compound of Puskat, in the bank of a river flowing from the Merapi volcano.

The key-speakers were Mr. Augy Loorthusamy (President SIGNIS World) and Ms. Ayu Utami (Indonesian, well-known novelist in Asia). The moderator was Ms. Bunga from Sanata Dharma University. About 100 participants (priests, nuns, lecturers, teachers, university students, catechists, and media practitioners) attended this seminar.. Three staff of Centro de Producao Audiovisuel-Dili Timor Leste (founded by Fr. Ruedi Hofmann SJ) and some SIGNIS members from Indonesia were also present.

Their presentation was based on the article they wrote on a new book edited by Fr. Iswarahadi SJ entitling “Do Media Respect Life?” Mr. Augy shared his expertise in media education, “Media Education as Global Concern”. Ms. Ayu Utami presentation was about “Media from the Woman Perspective”. Their presentation got a very good-participative reaction and appreciation from the participants. Each participant received a certificate (with Puskat’s and SIGNIS logo) and book “Do Media Respect Life?”
